Filey Bay is expanding its horizons into Portugal with its first whisky finished in port casks. This adds extra sweetness and spiciness to whiskies matured in bourbon casks.
Filey Bay Port Finish Batch #1 was first matured in bourbon casks (filled in mid-2017) and transferred to fresh port casks for a further two years in late 2020. Ruby Port is light and bright and uses more fresh fruit than the heavier, richer and more familiar Tawny, and barrels are hard to come by. This release has a much smaller batch size than the other 'cask finished' whiskies, with only 3,300 bottles available.
The whisky has a rich, spicy and fruity palate with flavours of blackberry jam, dark chocolate and vanilla.
